Botswana

Located south of the Equator, Botswana lies in both the eastern and southern hemispheres. This landlocked country is bordered by the countries of Namibia, to the west and north, Zimbabwe, to the north east, South Africa, to the south and south east, and, for a few hundred metres, Zambia, to the north. Botswana’s political history is too convoluted to go into here, but, formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its new name upon independence in 1966. Four decades of progressive social policies, and significant capital investment have created one of the most dynamic economies in Africa.

Geographically, Botswana is dominated by the Kalahari Desert, which covers up to 70% of its land surface, followed by the Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta, in the northwest, and the Makgadikgadi salt pan in the north. 

To AfricaAway, Botswana represents a somewhat exclusive safari destination, largely situated at the higher-priced end of the spectrum, but also providing a unique habitat, perhaps more suited to already experienced safari goers.
